New Tech Improves Checkout Experience

By Caterina Pontoriero
Checkout is a key location in any retail store, since it’s the one spot every paying customer will visit. Which is why it’s important to make sure the checkout process is both secure and efficient. But today, the checkout “lane” can be a handheld device. The WebDT 372 is a mobile tablet with encrypted PIN pad and magnetic stripe reader for secure payment transactions.

Retailers are always looking to make the checkout process more secure. StopLift Checkout Vision Systems’ ScanItAll provides scan avoidance detection reports that managers and loss prevention executives can view right from their tablet devices.

The checkout provides a last chance to engage customers and build customer loyalty. CognitiveTPG’s A799 printer features printing capabilities that are excellent for adding advanced logos, graphics or coupons on receipts. The ColorTouch Commercial thermostat from Venstar doubles as digital signage that can display ads and promotions right on the thermostat screen, catching customers’ attention as they wait in line and exit the store.

The printer also features two-color and monochrome printing capabilities and two-column printing, excellent for adding advanced logos, graphics, or coupons on receipts. www.cognitivetpg.com

By encrypting customer data, users can be assured there is  no risk in transferring highly sensitive debit card and credit card numbers from sales locations to collection server terminals. There are also options for barcode scanner, RFID reader and smart card reader for a variety of POS and service applications.  www.dtresearch.com

Venstar offers the ColorTouch Commercial thermostat, a multi-functional, simple-to-use touchscreen thermostat designed for commercial installations. With ColorTouch Commercial, retailers can display business logos, advertisements or promotions on thermostat screens as a slideshow screensaver or background wallpaper, making this standard piece of technology double as digital signage. www.venstar.com

The ScanItAll suite from StopLift Checkout Vision Systems has adapted its sweethearting detection technology to be provided in the cloud, enabling retailers to view theft incidents captured by the system from any location on their tablet devices. Any tablet that plays Flash will let retailers see video of captured sweethearting incidents and other scan avoidance events, and the system can save the video indefinitely. www.stoplift.com
