With mobile infiltrating the retail landscape, this isn’t your traditional POS anymore. As retailers continue to look into getting the most out of their POS systems, more and more vendors are adapting their solutions or creating new ones that support mobile and tablet POS capabilities.
In the first edition of RetailScapes, RIS lists some of the major vendors of POS solutions and highlights recent news and retailer deployments.

International Win
Cornell-Mayo recently rolled out a pilot of its Omnistore POS solution in new Eileen Fisher stores in London, England, joining major U.S. retail clients including Barnes & Noble, Neiman-Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Small Store, Big Innovator
Just for the holidays, Moosejaw implemented CrossView’s new handheld mobile POS in each of its stores throughout the Midwest, and the retailer plans to outfit all of its new stores with the handheld technology as it expands into more markets over the next 12 months. Moosejaw is among the first retailers of its small size to embrace the technology, joining well-known and considerably larger brands such as Apple, Old Navy, Nordstrom and Home Depot.

Creating a Foundation
O’Reilly Auto Parts is using OneView Commerce’s Enactor Commerce Platform as the foundation software for delivering POS and other commerce solutions to its 3,700 stores nationwide. The solution will enable O’Reilly to tailor business process flows to meet its unique business requirements while supporting its traditional POS. The solution provides O’Reilly with a foundation for increasing agility and will align with overall strategic objectives.

POS on the store floor
LightSpeed recently released LightSpeed for iPad, allowing retailers to offer a next-level personalized selling experience combined with inventory scanning, wireless payments and the powerful retail workflows of LightSpeed on the world’s most popular tablet. Transactions can be completed with a few taps and a credit card swipe, all right on the iPad.

Picture Perfect Transactions
MI9’s latest version of its MI9 Store POS solution recently hit the market. MI9 Store 8.0 guides users through each step and prominently features both a receipt image of the transaction and a photo of the product most recently scanned. The solution easily interfaces with the recently released MI9 Retail Hub, which provides real-time data to support sales, product and inventory lookup and cross-channel fulfillment.

Speedy Checkout
Cherry Hill Photo, a provider of promotional photography services to over 350 malls, shopping centers and department stores in the U.S., recently implemented POS-J from UTC Retail. “With POS-J, we will be able to improve the customer experience by getting them through the checkout quicker,” says Ed Warchol, president of Cherry Hill Photo. “We will also have better access to more timely sales data.”
