Amazon Web Services Debuts Cloud-Based Data Backups

Amazon Web Services has introduced AWS Storage Gateway, a service that connects on-premises software appliances with its cloud-based storage for backup and rapid disaster recovery.

The service provides low-latency performance by maintaining data on the enterprise's on-premise storage hardware while asynchronously uploading the data to AWS, where it is encrypted and securely stored in the Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Users of Storage Gateway can back up point-in-time snapshots of their on-premises application data to Amazon S3 for future recovery.
