Best Buy Tests Tablets and POS Apps for In-Store Use

Best Buy confirmed it is testing tablets and POS apps during the launch of the "Connected Store" pilot program. Tablets being tested include the Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Motorola Xoom.

Best Buy also noted it is looking into a point-of-sale custom application for use in its retail stores as part of the pilot program.

Rumors circulating last week said Best Buy planned to handout iPads to all on-floor sales associates in its U.S. stores, but a representative from Best Buy denied the claim in a report from The Wall Street Journal.

"We plan in the future to supply each store a limited number of handheld devices to use as sales tools when assisting the consumer," said a Best Buy representative. "We continue to evaluate all handheld devices and platforms, looking for the best solution to aid our employees on the floor."
