Walmart has begun to see the benefits since launching Pay with Cash, which allows customers to order on its website and pay at a store within 48 hours. The goal of the program is to get more shopping buying online while still visiting the physical store.
Joel Anderson, CEO of Walmart.com noted at a conference that Pay with Cash now accounts for almost 2% of all online orders, 30% of these customers are new to Walmart.com and the size of Pay with Cash orders is also 50% larger than the average online order.
Walmart launched the program in April to provide a means of shopping online for customers with limited access to credit. Anderson also noted that when Pay with Cash customers come into a Walmart store, approximately 40% of those shoppers end up paying by card or another form of non-cash payment which suggests that many Walmart shoppers are still reluctant to use credit and debit cards online.
