Retail and e-Tail Top List of Cybercrime Targets in 2011
Cybercrime attacks on retail and e-tail will outpace those on banks and financial institutions in 2011, according to NetClarity, a provider of network access control technology, in partnership with Hakin9, an IT security publication.
"Based on my research, 2011 is going to be an explosive year both in cybercrime and cyberwar," said Gary S. Miliefsky, founder of CTO of NetClarity. "It's going to get very ugly. Network security professionals will be in great demand and will have their jobs cut out for them next year."
Other predictions for 2011 include:
• Cloud computing and virtual machines (VM) will be specifically targeted by cybercriminals and cyberterrorists resulting in VM malware, Cloud "downtime" and Cloud "data theft."
• We'll enter the early stage of growing cell phone and PDA attacks through trusted application downloads.
• New and sophisticated Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) attacks will be developed and launched.
• More creative social engineering for cybercrime profits will take place.
